It's time for community businesses to rise up.

No need for new models, just the ones that already exist, but for the better good of humanity.

There's nothing wrong with (online) ads. They've existed for a long time without problems. There's simply no need to stalk and track people.

There's nothing wrong with an algorithm. They are really just rules. They should be designed well, and ethically.

There's nothing wrong with community and social spaces. They can be inspiring and healthy. But not if they are toxic, addictive, or if they don't end up truly benefiting the people.

There's nothing wrong with AI. It's pretty useful. But not if data is stolen and too many people suffer as a result.

The problem is lack of care and consideration.

Community businesses should be created with layers of care.

It's time to redesign new community businesses. We can still build good businesses with ads, with algorithms, subscriptions and so much more. These are not the problems. This is in fact exactly what we need. The support and the money to reinvest back into better spaces and with models that are familiar with those that hold budget.

Increasingly, I believe, the only way to take back control. To make money how big tech makes money. Yet, hopefully this time, at least on average, we can do better. We must!

We don't have to be not-for-profits or charities, though that's not a bad shout. We can be normal community businesses. Making good money. And know that the right thing to do is not to be a greedy cow.

It's possible.

Let's go.
