Community on tap

Community value for people, delivered across the organisation and beyond!

At Ministry of Testing we hold a weekly live audio show. It has the ultimate good vibes. It's called This Week in Testing. And we kind of do what it says on the tin. We talk about our week as a testing professional has been.

Today Simon used a phrase that I love: Community on Tapβ€”when people in the community are simply happy and available to help.

It was used in the context of someone starting a new job and talking about the confidence, or lack of it, after a period of out of work.

Community on Tap came up because this person had been actively contributing to the community, reaching out, talking to people and finding his way through a lack of work.

The reality is that he had the community on tap to help him. He had put in the work, all credit to him. But also, the community always responded. So all credit to the community too.

But what's more, is that now starting in a new role, not only can he keep tapping into the community, he can also tap into the community on behalf of the whole company.

This is a huge part of the value of community. Often unseen. Undetected. Unspoken. But we must recognise that there are people thriving everywhere, who do so with the help of communities around them.

Our challenge, as community professionals, is to help others see how immensely valuable it is to have the community on tap. And how getting the support of individuals and organisations is essential to helping communities thrive.
