Recruiting as a business model

I've been aware of, and been an (admittedly inactive) member of Elpha for a while now. I knew they had raised some money, but I had wondered how they are or are planning to make money as the community is free to join.

I thought I would take a sneak peek to see what I could quickly find out about their business model.
