A refreshing community week? Rosieland Roundup 294

Three new tools. Guiding principles. SEO, AEO and GEO, oh my.

I still don't know what to make of the community world at the moment, but with three new community tools on the market, one from a not-for-profit, and two from "indie" makers, plus all the fun I'm having by not letting the social networks nor the VCs have all the fun...well, I'm choosing to be optimistic...and true to my style, I will keep my head down and just keep going.

Let's go!

Seven guiding principles to start strong with a tech community | Simon Tomes

Guiding principles hint at multiple ways to travel with a tech community. Think of a guiding principle as a little pep talk every time you interact asynchronously or in realtime with other humans. Youโ€™ll move in a positive direction even if you consider just one of the guiding principles.

My next chapter with Mastodon

Social networking is a hard business to be in, I wish is it were easier for the people creating goodness.

But it would be uncouth for me to pretend that there isnโ€™t some self-interest involved. Being in charge of a social media project is, turns out, quite the stressful endeavour, and I donโ€™t have the right personality for it. I think I need not elaborate that the passion so many feel for social media does not always manifest in healthy ways. You are to be compared with tech billionaires, with their immense wealth and layered support systems, but with none of the money or resources. It manifests in what people expect of you, and how people talk about you
