π§ Good day from Rosieland!
π Whatβs your go-to definition of community?
I came across this definition of community a few days ago and something about it stuck with me.
The definition of a community has a stable, clear definition in social science. Knowing this definition makes it very obvious what you need to care about, build, and measure. I'm not saying don't have your own definition, but I am saying don't ignore 80 years of social science. pic.twitter.com/nyQqjxyyAO

Partly I love the focus on a well-defined unit of culture, but it also doesn't mention the less tangible aspects of relationships, belonging and connections and instead builds upon shared aspects which are more tangible.
π I've started a discussion on this, let's talk about this on The Village forum.

- Discord starts rolling out new Forum Channels to help organize conversations β I'm curious to see this in action. π

A role I don't think #cmgrs recognize they fill - you're the history keepers of your community.

You may remember moments, events, names, feelings, the lows, the highs, & so on.
You definitely remember the people & that's where the history comes from.
Can't be mad at it.
A common mistake brands make in building communities is only encouraging conversation that's directly related to the brand.

But, the good stuff usually lives in the "overlap" that members have *with each other* that has nothing to do wit your brand. Examples π§΅

There are three financial community models.

People seem to talk about free and paid communities, but often omit a crucial community model:
The Freemium Community.

The community allowed me to build much deeper connections with my readers β I can put names on faces, and I have a better idea of what kind of content would be interesting/helpful to them
