β¨ Follow community guidelines with context
By Simon Tomes
One enjoyable part of my role is when I spot a turnaround with a company that's gone pushy with a "Hey community, we need your help, we'll reward you" approach having only just joined the community.
I give straight-up private feedback that "this isn't how we do things around here" suggesting there's a lighter way. I provide practical ideas as to how they might get involved with a community without being salesy. It's a good feeling when they instantly turn a corner and go "Ah yeah, that makes sense, I'll try that."
Community guidelines are important and if we follow them without context we might miss opportunities to see the good in people, their intentions and excitement for what they're working on. I like how I get the opportunity to help folks use their energy and excitement in a positive way for the community I advocate for.
