I had a bit of an emotional end to the week.
The company I bootstrapped and founded (but no longer work at day to day) was hit hard by coronavirus as 70% of revenue came from physical events. They pivoted quickly and last week hosted their first online conference. It had raving reviews, which took me and the team by real surprise. Everything just seemed to click.
As the original founder I shed a tear as I looked on from the outside, itβs so hard to completely let go of a community. Iβm not sure I ever will.
I hope to write something up from my perspective soon. β€οΈ

my biggest realisation is that building communities is like falling in quicksand. u keep slipping in further & further. u just don't want to get out of it! it's been 9 years now and i don't want to do anything but build communities... #CommunityManager #cmgr #CMXGlobalConnect

I'm always telling myself I don't have enough in my head to write; an essay, a book, whatever. But I just wrote 1400 words without stopping in response to a customer question on Facebook. #cmgr

Building a community isn't easy. There are so many ups & downs along the way that make you question everything you know. However, that first time you *really* see your people connecting--that spark--you remember EXACTLY why you do what you do. Community is powerful y'all. #cmgr

I was explaining to someone yesterday why I love managing online community so much and it came down to helping others connect and the amazing people Iβve met in my career. This is really the best work ever. I love it. With my whole heart. β€οΈ #cmgr
