π Hello! I'm happy to bring you the latest community building roundup.
Honestly, I was feeling a bit down when I was putting this newsletter together because lately, I've felt there hasn't been a whole lot of community content to include. However, my spirits have been lifted with Bluesky now being part of my curation process.
It feels like fun times again!
π On Rosieland this week:
π How to host a Wikipedia edit-a-thon in your community | Let's Gather
This is a cool idea. Often when we think of community projects we can all too often default to the places we have ownership over. It's great to put energy into other projects, for the benefit of more people.
π A close-up look at Communities of Practice with Etienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner | Mapping Ties
This was a joy to listen to, there were so many good and wise ideas shared.
Community tools news:
- Cosmunity: turns your YouTube comments and Livestream donations into an interactive, animated universe where every community member becomes a star.
- Donut Acquires Gatheround, Expanding Employee Experience Offerings, I can only imagine Gatheround will eventually be shut down.
- icebreakers.wiki - conversation starters that might inspire your own community conversations
- Writerry - blogging straight from whatsapp, it could be a really easy tool to adopt for simple communications
π¦ This week in Bluesky
Yessss, I'm excited for this! I used to share good community Tweets in my newsletter, but it's been at least a year since I stopped (for obvious shittification of X reasons).
Yet now, I feel Bluesky is in a position to replace it, and I've been working on my community list to help me curate better. It's really lifted my spirits, haha.
There are some fun little projects popping up on Bluesky, I quite like this one from a good virtual friend of mine.
Perhaps becoming employee owned is one trend towards becoming more community focused.
And we're finding Bluesky replacing what Twitter once provided.
I'm excited to continue tweaking my Bluesky curation.
π Until next week!
